Harvey Mason jr., an American record producer, songwriter, and film producer, was born on June 3, 1968, in Boston, Massachusetts. He is renowned for his extensive contributions to the music industry, working with iconic artists such as Aretha Franklin, Justin Bieber, Michael Jackson, Ariana Grande, Elton John, Britney Spears, Stevie Wonder, Lionel Richie, Justin Timberlake, Whitney Houston, and Chris Brown. His musical journey commenced at a young age, accompanying his father, jazz drummer Harvey Mason Sr., to recording sessions with industry legends like Quincy Jones, the Brothers Johnson, and Herbie Hancock.

Mason jr. is a multi-talented individual, having excelled both in music and sports. He attended the University of Arizona on a basketball scholarship from 1986 to 1990 and notably participated in the 1988 Final Four with the Arizona Wildcats men’s basketball team. Following his college basketball career, he transitioned to a successful path as a songwriter and record producer, showcasing his prowess in various musical genres.

Throughout his career, Mason jr. has been instrumental in producing music for television and films, contributing to projects such as “Dreamgirls” with Beyoncé and Jennifer Hudson, “Sparkle” featuring Whitney Houston, “Pitch Perfect” with Hailee Steinfeld and Anna Kendrick, “Sing” with Reese Witherspoon, Scarlett Johansson, and Tori Kelly, “Straight Outta Compton” with Dr. Dre and Ice Cube, and “The Wiz Live!” with Mary J. Blige and Neyo.

In addition to his artistic endeavors, Mason jr. has held significant positions within The Recording Academy, where he was elected to the board of directors for the Los Angeles chapter in 2007 and later assumed the role of CEO in May 2021. His involvement with the GRAMMY Foundation, including events such as GRAMMY in the Schools and GRAMMY Camp, highlights his commitment to fostering musical education and talent development.
